A. Policy Statement
This policy statement outlines the aims and practice for the organisation’s commitment to the Environment, Social Responsibility and Governance. It is guided by the Schools’ vision of ‘Transformative experiences and environments for children to embark on the life-long journey of exploration and learning’ and by the mission of ‘empowering children in their journey from early childhood to adolescence, to help them grow into contributing global citizens.’
B. Practice
Environment
- 1. At Healthy Planet, we believe that we need to inform and empower our children so that they can protect their future and that of the planet. Our voice, our actions and how we treat each other and the planet, are key to building a healthy and happy future together.
- 2. Our vision is to build a community which understands the importance of individual and collaborative action in our planet’s future.
- 3. We all have the right, responsibility, and the opportunity to change the world for the better.
- 4. Our curriculum and approaches to learning include several opportunities for children to learn about sustainability and practise actions that would help support the same.
- 5. Our outdoor learning programmes such as the ‘farm school’ ensure that children engage with the natural world with a certain degree of authenticity which helps them understand our interdependence as they form a connection the natural world.
- 6. Additionally, several curriculum units highlight aspects of food and water which helps children understand the need of reducing our carbon footprints, reusing and promoting recycling. These are not just given as information but children practise collective action for example, through donation drives, ‘let’s finish our food’ campaigns, iPledge.
- 7. Furthermore, the infrastructure clearly contributes to sustainability of the environment through rainwater harvesting, recycling used water, solar panelling to create a renewable energy source and water taps which turn off automatically.
Social Responsibility
- 1. We foster and actively promote positive attitudes, relationships and mutual respect between groups and communities different from each other.
- 2. We share a fostered sense of cohesion and belonging so that all members of the school community feel a sense of acceptance within the school and wider community and feel that they are respected and able to participate fully in school life.
- All learners are of valued equally. They:
• Feel secure and know that their contributions are valued.
• Appreciate and value the differences they see in others.
• Take responsibility for their own actions.
• Are taught in groupings that allow them all to experience progress and development using developmentally appropriate resources and learning materials.
• Use materials that reflect a range of social and cultural backgrounds without stereotyping.
• Have challenging targets that are supported to enable them to succeed. - 3. As an organisation, we are always ready to share our knowledge and expertise in the interests of the local and wider community to build knowledge, understanding and skills.
Governance
- 1. The Governance of Healthy Planet ensures:
• all laws are upheld through strict adherence to and implementation of all legal requirements for educational institutions.
• all statutory responsibilities are complied with.
